Service Description

In the vast landscape of analytics, where technical skills abound, the art of data storytelling remains a scarce commodity. Despite the wealth of hard skills within analytics teams, the softer skills of contextualizing data and crafting narratives that resonate are often overlooked, leaving a gap in delivering the full spectrum of value analytics can offer. This gap represents the critical "last mile" in the analytics value chain—the ability to translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights that can guide decision-making and inspire action. Without the power of a well-told story, data risks being underutilized or, worse, ignored. Recognizing this emerging trend as early as 2016, Forbes highlighted the growing importance of data storytelling in making data not just accessible but truly impactful. As Dan Heath from Duke University puts it, "Data are just summaries of thousands of stories – tell a few of those stories to make the data meaningful." FYTs "Data Storytelling" workshop is designed to bridge this gap. In a comprehensive one-day session, participants will dive into the entire analytics value chain with a laser focus on mastering the art of data storytelling. Learning outcomes - Understand the the analytics value chain, how it creates value for organizations and the role that data storytelling plays in it - Build the story line, starting with the end in mind. Identifying the intended outcomes of the story, working backwards to help the audience arrive at the same outcomes - Flesh out the story on a storyboard. Identifying the specific messages along the storyline, identifying the specific data insight that supports the messages. Adjusting the storyboard for pace and details. - Translate the data storyboard in the case exercise into a presentation deck that tells a concise, coherent, and compelling story. Technical Requirements - Students will be required have their own internet accessible laptops with MS Powerpoint(2016 or later) and ZOOM installed; as well as access to google docs
