You don’t need a statistics degree—just some intention.


1. Random Sampling

Pick people from a full list randomly (e.g., using a random number generator)

✅ Best for: General sentiment, when everyone matters⚠️ Watch for: Leaving out hidden subgroups



2. Stratified Sampling

Split your group into categories (e.g. roles, regions) and sample within each

✅ Best for: Ensuring balance across segments⚠️ Needs: Some structure to your list



3. Purposive Sampling

Intentionally select people for specific insight (e.g., power users, recent leavers)

✅ Best for: Pilots, prototypes, early-stage feedback⚠️ Don’t overgeneralize results—they reflect insights, not proportions
